You are Estaban de Mirracas, a proud veteran of the Imperial Army. After your regiment had been disbanded after the end of the Colibrian Wars, you had chosen to go into the service of some minor lord from one of the Princedoms. Your service had once again taken you out to foreign lands (though you found this Nera to be far more hospitable than Sudamedia, outside of the rain) and to yet another great battle. Your company had the fortune to be left in the southern grove where these Neran knights could not reach. When they had veered off to the left after your first volley you had thought yourself to be freed to rest for the moment...but then, you heard it, some awful whistling, followed by dozens of men in that pike circle of the colonel being turned into mush by some giant arrows. Stuck as they were, if his lordship and his forces were wiped out, you'd be the next to perish. And so...
"Company! Turn about! We're marching back to the other side.."
You took your company yet again to the eastern side of the grove. From there, you quickly saw them, standing closer than ever, preparing to fire their monstrous bow yet again. Your men wasted no time in raising their arms, and under your orders, fired off a wave of shot on the creatures. Your arquebuses might not have had the power to penetrate the platewear of those swordsmen who had crossed the river, but these archers were far less armored - a few more fell. When the other company posted in the grove arrived and followed your attack with another, even more were slain. The archers, diminished as they were, quickly began to ran, abandoning their position as they dragged the bodies of their dead and wounded. As your men began to cheer in their success, however, you were met with a hail of bullets from the enemy's own arquebuses. With the giants gone, however...
"Turn about! Retreat deeper into the woods! Those lot are no threat anymore."
Your duty, for now, was finished. All that was left was for his lordship to deal with those knights, and the battle would be as good as won...
