Emotional Suppression is *not* a source of shame, it is piety and holiness. It is the gift pursued by many a techpriest, to distance oneselves from the whims and fancies of fallible, mortal flesh, for the cold logic of the immortal machine.
That being said, I see no reason why they cannot also indulge as gunners to practice their targeting skills. Every 2nd Legionaire LOVES Dakka, and even our brave melee Astartes should keep their wits sharp.
Firing ranges to let out some steam is entirely 2nd Legion culture. Emotional Suppression when it gets too strong as a last resort option.
If QM only wants one and only one, desu the Emotional Suppression is better because not every time there will be enemies in the void to shoot at and we don't want our sons to lose their trigger discipline on peaceful patrol missions. Not that blowing asteroids up for practice should be discouraged but there are reasons for stealth and quiet too.
