>>5657457False, almost every QM that tries it just doesn't "get" it. Its all always "extra special super cool high fantasy unique look at me please adventure" or "modern day people in fantasy setting". A GOOD fantasy read needs to feel like you are opening a historical book about the crusades, but there is also a dragon, written by a scholar trying to tech you history. Then from THAT point, you walk backwards to make it more accessible to the reader with characters and goal for them. What almost every single person who tires to make a fantasy quest here does, is makes some characters and a plot then ADDs the fantasy after the fact. Its in the WRONG direction. Conan can't exist in middle earth any more then gandelf can exist in the hyborian age. Fantasy and its setting are more connected then any other genre and it needs to feel RIGHT and lived in. Something like Atlas Shrugged doesn't NEED to be set in America, it could be china russia france what ever. Any capitalist country. AS doesn't need America like the Night Watch needs Ankh-Morpork.
This is not me telling you to lore dump me your setting, do NOT do that. But your setting has to be there in the background, and the more ALIVE it is the more it will leak out on its own into the writing. For example, a character who was a farmer before coming becoming a mercenary or something may wake up before everyone else at 4 am. Characterization like that goes MILES further to a fantasy quest enjoyer.
Also, this doesn't mean EVERYONE who will read your quest cares about that kind of stuff. But if readers don't care about the autistic details in the setting, then they probably wouldn't care if your quest was fantasy or not in the first place. They may read your fantasy quest but not be fantasy quest enjoyers.
LASTLY, the sad truth is if you decide to write a fantasy quest TODAY and haven't already been autisticly building up your fantasy setting for like 2+ years then your fantasy quest is just not going to be any good.
didn't proof read any of this this shit so it probably comes off ass rambling, didnt expect to write up a long post.
