“Have I turned into toast?” You struggle to open your eyes, the headache you have is far too severe. You hope one day someone finds a way to knock out people without concussing them.
“You smell like smoke but that’s as close to toasty as you got.” That ridiculous response, that’s Vanessa. “Do not fret, I’ve extinguished the fire already!”
“V-Vanessa?” You can tell what you’re seeing now. You’re on a bed in a different room. Everything looks… fine? “You saved me?”
“But of course!” Vanessa is in shock! Then she turns her expression to concern. “P-Please, take it easy peasy!”
“W-What happened to Ema?” You need answers.
“Ema? Is that the girl with a scientist coat that jumped off the building? I sent the others to chase after her. I have no idea where she went! Marcela wanted to stay upon seeing the smoke coming out the window, worried about your safety, but I convinced her otherwise thanks to the many tales of your resilience.” Vanessa clasps her hands. “I feel like a Captain all over again!”
“What about Athena?” Is everyone fine?
“Is that the lady holding your arm for dear life at this very moment?” Vanessa points at the person next to you. You didn’t even notice her, she’s still unconscious but her grip is strong. “She hasn’t woken up yet.”
“I just did…” Athena lets you go and sits on the bed next to you. “I just want to let you know I’m a married woman, Mr. Kobayashi. You’re the second man I’ve ever shared a bed with, I’ll never forget the mystique of our little affair.”
“W-What?!” You bounce out of the bed.
“Am I so hideous to earn that kind of reaction? How cruel… Your disdain doesn’t make a woman’s heart grow fonder, Mr. Kobayashi. Everyone wants to be loved.” Athena is just pulling your leg.
