Next, it's the sandstorm. You're not the best at understanding kids (especially ever since that one incident) but Null seems more able to. She enters the containment cell.
The storm stares at the opening airlock, not moving a single inch as it does so.
The ETF agent raises her only visible eyebrow.
ETF-O: I expected you to be a bit more energetic today.
ETF-O: What's the issue?
The storm shifts, getting closer to the agent.
ANOMALY: What am I?
ANOMALY: What is this place? Why am I here? Where do you come from?
Null takes a moment to respond.
ETF-O: Looking for a purpose, like many others?
ANOMALY: What? No! I...
ANOMALY: What am I? I'm not you. I know that. What am I?
ANOMALY: I'm not normal. I know that. But why? Why am I not you?!
ETF-O: Look. Sirocco. Siro.
Null pats the ground in front of her. The storm drifts over to "sit" down with the agent.
ETF-O: I can't explain why you aren't normal. That's the reason why we call you an 'anomaly' after all.
ETF-O: Did your family ever said anything about you being weird? Or abnormal?
ANOMALY: Well, papa always told me how 'unique' I was but I thought he was just talking about you know!
ANOMALY: Being his daughter!
ANOMALY: But he kept telling me I couldn't leave the house. That he didn't want me to make the same mistake again.
ANOMALY: I...I wanted to see the outside world. To leave the shelter. Aren't I allowed to live when I grow up?
ANOMALY: Every time I do so, though, I get hurt. Why? Why did I do to deserve it?
ANOMALY: Maybe dad was right. Maybe it's better to stay in here. I get food, I get entertainment...
ETF-O: But are you happy here?
ETF-O: Happiness is a vague and ephemeral thing, I'll admit, but this place is a bit softer than the others.
ETF-O: What did you mean by a mistake, though? If you don't mind me asking.
Never leave until it's confirmed the storm has passed by the area.
WAIT! DON'T OPEN THE DOOR! GET BACK HERE!
The storm shudders and slows down.
ANOMALY: I didn't know what it was. My parents were so scared of it but I wanted to see it.
ANOMALY: I don't know what happened after that. I don't want to know.
ANOMALY: So loud. Couldn't breath. Couldn't see.
ETF-O: I'm sorry if this is traumatic for you. I didn't intend for any ill will.
ETF-O: It's going to be okay. You're safe with us, aren't you?
ANOMALY: ...
The conversation quickly turns cold. The storm shifts away from the ETF agent and back to a corner of the cell.
All Null can do in response is to sigh. She stands up and brushes the sand off of her pants.
ETF-O: At least we got something out of her.
She mutters to herself before exiting the containment cell.
