[MORWENNA] "Theirssss isss a story... ohhff... of the world outside bringing its troubles to their peaceful isolation anyway."
[MORWENNA] "...aaallll we wanted... wasss to be left well alone..."
Morwenna clutched her claws tight into fists, digging their tips into her palms. Her jaw rattled, gritting against the teeth on her mouth's roof.
[MORWENNA] "No mmmatter where you go... no matter how far you run... there's alwaysss... ALWAYS SOMEONE...! Someone who must... must bring you dissspute... botheration! Alwaysss... alway-hhghys someone who must CREATE woe for others... even when there is none... espesshhhially when there is none!"
[MORWENNA] "Nothing... is free... mercy... love... kindness very so... and that Emperarhh... the damn villain... nothing more than a seducer, whose deals always have a catch... and now... the Sun... takes it away from us... ever since then."
More victims of the Emperor. Perhaps his worst. But "seducer"? That's a new one. I've never heard that one before. Perhaps Morwenna is victim to more than just the Emperor's false promises...I could certainly see it on the infected tears running down her skull. Even her tears now contained the Blight.
The Beast Blight that mutated them from Afterseas exposure... they are immune, but now they have different hungers. The raw malice makes them wish for blood in their maws, and for the outside world to die. But their hunger will never run out. Even if Beastkin were all that populated the world, they would still lust for it.
I... and this is the first time I can admit this. I see no solutions to their issues readily available. I don't know if the Beast Blight can be cured. Or if Morwenna can be convinced to give up her hatred of outsiders for all Blickery's people have ever endured.
>"What caused the Curse of the Lost? And how do I lift it?"
[MORWENNA] "You don't."
I blinked at her.
[MORWENNA] "It is our wish... to ssslay those outside... only the Blickery Beasts may,, errtgh! Lay claim here. Outsiders, you do not beLONG. Ifff you ssshould set foot here, be cursed. Our will sustains."
[MAJORDOMO] "Their curse is a direct extension of the collective will of Beastkin. In other words, they wish for their island to be unable to be traversed by anyone who isn't Beast, just to make it effortless for them to kill anyone who steps foot here. This is the work of their whole psyche, Munny. It's like nothing we've ever seen. It's only possible to manifest as phenomena thanks to Morwenna's existence. In other words, this curse disappears when she dies."
Unsettling. And she very clearly hated herself... and wished to die. Yet, something was still keeping her going. Making her reluctant to end herself, and thus end the Beasts as well. She was the cornerstone of the Blight, since she drank it when the Emperor collected it. It lives on through her. If she dies, all Beasts will, old and newly turned.
