You also don't necessarily need to make a huge ship to make it pricey. These mechanics have been sorta hidden but in general:
Putting more advanced tech in a ship generally increases the ratio of rare matter used in it's construction. Some particularly special tech besides the FTL drives will even use exotic matter.
Ships are nominally sold at a 20% mark up. Aside from situational modifiers, things like special features from more advanced techs can push the base mark up higher. I decide the mark up bonus on a case by case basis but generally a high end ship using more advanced technologies will be sold at a higher markup than a low tech ship of equal displacement.
