“Thanks, it’s not going to take long.” You profusely appreciate his good disposition… Unlike someone else’s. “Vanessa…”
“Ah!” Ex-Lieutenant is hiding under the counter again, you can only see her bulging eyes.
“C-Calm down.” You don’t know why she’s being so effusive.
“Ah.” Vanessa just lowers her volume but continues being in a panic.
“Can we have a tiny chat in the back? We’ll need some privacy. Like I said, it’s about the Blues.” You don’t want this nice fellow to hear anything about it, no matter how pleasant he is. “No offense, it’s a personal matter.”
“None taken, I don’t want to pry in your business. Could you spare me a menu before you go?” The good fellow asks Vanessa… She passes one through the counter using one hand without leaving her position. “Thank you.”
You acted like a twat before with that Stan guy, why is he being so nice? Maybe he had some altercation with Stan previous to your arrival. Sounds likely with how easy that guy was to anger.
“U-Uh, dear client, you promised to clean up the mess!” Vanessa finds a way to delay this! “Yes! W-We can’t have a conversation until you do! I’m not too distracted to forget your promise!”
You turn to the non-existent mess. The fat cat ate everything, including the cardboard. No, he just folded it between his paws and now he’s dragging it to the dumpster. What in the world? Is that why he’s here? You and Client 33 share a look of confusion.
“Meow.” That’s the fanciest cat voice you have ever heard. Vanessa hides again…
“It’ll be a moment…” You reassure the other guy as Vanessa crawls to the back door without saying a word. “Huh, should I jump the counter or…?” You turn to Customer 33, he shrugs in response. You go the long way instead… You caused enough trouble as it is.
It’s a tiny storage room, there’s not much space to move around. Aside from the boxes, there’s a desk and a couple of plastic chairs. You don’t think any of this is related to pastry cooking, all the sweets are at the counter outside. Vanessa takes part of her costume off to reveal she’s still Vanessa…
“Sergeant Kobashi…” Vanessa finally looks you in the eyes.
“Ex-Sergeant, Lieutenant van Zullekom.” You sigh as you take your coat off.
“Ex-Lieutenant, Ex-Sergeant Kobashi.” Vanessa wants to chuckle but doesn’t know if it’s appropriate.
You have mixed feelings… On one hand she’s the reason for so much suffering, so much change in your life, to what happened to Yareli… But on the other hand, you thought she was dead, and you still think of her as your friend.
