“‘Green means go’. Got it.” you said, throwing a few shadow punches to warm up your muscles.
A few seconds later, your first opponent started spawning in. And he was immediately familiar to anyone who was remotely experienced with fighting game titles.
The muscular, scarred form of Kazuya Mishima materialized before your very eyes, his single red eye blazing with hatred as it bored straight through you.
“Alright, that's a little intimidating, but I think I've got a decent chance of taking him out.” you muttered.
You were right to assume that she would use pre-existing game characters, then. A bit of meta-knowledge might do you good in this little bout.
The next character to spawn in was a little more terrifying, however.
The familiar, stoic face of Ryu from Street Fighter crystallized from Ember’s glowing particles. She took her time detailing every inch of his model, from his chiseled physique to his tattered gi.
You had no idea how well his powers and abilities would translate to this fight, but you hoped that they were at least a little less capable of harnessing supernatural energies.
Unfortunately, things only got worse when Giovanna from Guilty Gear and Yoshimitsu from Tekken spawned in behind you.
“Seriously? TWO Tekken characters?”
“Hey, Yoshimitsu's in SoulCal too.” Ember easily replied, not even bothering to open her eyes so as to not break her concentration.
This was starting to get hairy. Quite literally in Giovanna’s case.
The translucent, green spirit wolf that floated over her shoulder snarled angrily at you, exposing its sharp fangs in a flash of white.
You didn't know enough about her character or her moves to make accurate judgements about what she would do in a fight like this. And the range increase that Yoshimitsu's sword would give him could prove to be even more troublesome. He was also the only one here with a weapon. You would need to be extra careful
And as the last opponent spawned in, you held your breath and prayed for a slightly weaker fighter.
But when the last fighter turned out to be an angry, cartoonish brown calf with a lasso in her mouth, you couldn't help but stare in bewilderment.
“Wait a minute. Which game is this?”
The warning did say that humanoid fighters aren't guaranteed, but this was a little…
“Kick some ass out there, Benny!” Flint called out.
“Try not to lose to the baby cow!” Felicia added.
You were about to come up with a biting retort, but right at that very moment, the ring turned green, and everyone exploded into motion.
Ryu shot out a projectile, Kazuya inched towards you slowly, Yoshimitsu circled around to flank you from the left, and the wolf girl and cartoon cow ran straight for you.
