While you didn't have enough time to get a ship part as well as grow out your pikmin- you did manage to find one other thing- a <span class="mu-s"><span class="mu-i">cavern</span></span>.
Worn by natural action of geological activity and water erosion, the caves beneath Fire Alley are relatively deep. The entrance to the cavern has a trickling stream of mineral water flowing into the earth- the smell of brimstone in the air- if you could smell past your suit's filters. You consult your ship AI and both of you come to the same conclusion- because <span class="mu-i">your ship blew up in the atmosphere</span>, all of your ship parts will be on the <span class="mu-i">surface of the planet</span>- falling from the sky into a field or mountain crevice at worst. What this means is caverns will have nothing to do with repairing your ship.
However, even a cursory glance at your sensors indicate that deep beneath the planet's surface there is a great deal of radioactive material and high energy readings. Your intuition also tells you that these caverns and cave could hold a wealth of very rare mineral deposits or other valuable objects. It sounds like pure greed but, valuable treasures or things that inadvertently help your survival. Given how there is more then one species of Pikmin you've found so far, and so diverse of a species, there could even be a chance of subterranean Pikmin found down there. However, these caverns will be <span class="mu-i">significantly more dangerous</span> then the surface; and with the added negative of not being able to return easily to the onion. In other words, these are like dungeons- you will have to prepare your forces carefully in advance and make your way all the way through without stopping, and it will take a full day to plumb one's depths. In other words, if you have a spare day, these optional caverns could be worth exploring.
You dub this cavern the <span class="mu-s">Mineral Pools</span>, given the great deal of moisture you detect down there, no doubt the source of the various steam geysers on the surface.
Now its time to decide what to do tomorrow.
Note- If a majority of people want to move locations, then you will, otherwise it will default to return to the same location until you recover the ship part at that location.
