"Hnnng! You're right. But you're still wasted protecting those fabergé eggs! The waters out there are getting more dangerous every day! And they are wasting precious resources by pretending they are important! They could've at least delayed the Levely until things calmed down but noooo! They have to put everyone at risk by strutting their stuff around!"
Garp abruptly stopped his ranting and looked quite serious. His exaggerated annoyance, as well as his carefree grin both disappeared.
"Come on, really? That's what it took?"
"What are you talking about teacher? What's wrong?"
Garp turned around and as he did the two boys saw the white figure that appeared behind him.
"You know that's nowhere near the most slanderous thing I've said about the government. Or did the big dogs upstairs finally decide that they're tired of my barking? Mary..."
Mary took off her mask, shocking the boys who called out to her by name.
"Greetings. Garp the Hero."
Garp folded his arms.
"Is this how it's gonna be then? Murdered in broad daylight? I heard you guys fubar'd pretty recently and got grilled. But I still held Aegis in a little higher regard than this. Did you guys really get so sloppy? Or did Cavalier kill everyone with an ounce of talent?"
"I'm not with Aegis 0 anymore."
Garp uncrossed his arms and frowned.
"Girl... What in the blazes did you do?"
"In exchange for taking the fall for the last mission I got about half a dozen agents vouching for me. And because my security clearance wasn't that high and didn't come to possess any classified information because I was still technically a trainee they allowed me to leave. In exchange for becoming the laughing stock of the government and bringing shame to my name I can return to being a marine."
"Mary..."
"Make no mistake. I did not come to ask for forgiveness Garp."
Mary knelt down and placed her forehead on the sand.
"I'm sorry for failing to meet your expectations."
