“There’s one thing,” you scratched your brow, “Something y’ might know. I had this weird dream while I was conked out. I saw somethin’ that I don’t know what t’ think of it. Yuliana,” you considered calling her bitch, cunt, whore, whatever insult had less syllables, but while she’d put you in the hospital, you had a feeling she’d also kept you from going there for too long. A little favor. “She’s some sort of noble. Is she from some lost royal family, or somethin’?”
Magnus nodded. “You could say that. She could tell you more about it, but the family of Sanmorza is very, very old. Ancient. I don’t know much more than that though. They might have been royalty of some place, some time, very long ago. By the time of the earliest found recorded history of this continent during Nauk Imperial, though, the Sanmorzas ruled over only a small territory, and even then, under sanction of the Nauk. A historian would tell you that the Sanmorzas were thus appointed to governing that territory. The Sanmorzas would tell differently, but there’s little significance to whether that’s true or not in these days.”
That wasn’t very helpful, so you told more. “I saw this pendant. A cameo. It had a picture of a helmet and a lance on the outside, and a crown on the inside, blue and white, on a picture of the sea and flowers with a moon. That sound familiar?” Magnus had been Yuliana’s childhood friend, lover, who knew what else. If any of that didn’t ring a bell…
Magnus raised an eyebrow and shook his head. “I don’t know what the outside symbol would be, but the Sanmorza’s emblem is the Seafoam Blossoms in Night. Is that the kind of flower it was?”
“I don’t know flowers.”
Magnus shrugged. “The Sanmorzas held the sea and the moon in reverence in the most ancient times, and their symbology is decidedly marine in character. I’m sorry though, without seeing what you saw, I don’t know if it’d be more than coincidence. There’s certainly no crown I can recall.”
…Alright. Not that that meant there’d never been one, though.
“Fine. Weird question I know, but I had weird dreams.” You looked and listened around the private ward. The two of you were alone in here…but Magnus didn’t seem in much a mood to get up to any last-minute games, especially in a room in a public building without a lock. Steps echoed up and down the halls outside. “…Uh,” you caught yourself on well wishes, “Make sure y’ write. Don’t get stuck in shit. ‘Cause…y’know.”
Magnus touched at your right ear, curled his finger around where a notch cut it in twain. “I know.”
“I don’t want t’ have to find somebody else like you again.” Why was a simply I love you so hard all of a sudden?
