It's not every place you go in where you are treated with respect, or even with a monochrome of decency, so it's nice to be welcomed by a group that's not interested in offing your head.
"Of course, our island goes by the name of Nostos. According to our ancestors, the tides used to be a lot lower than they truly were, making it able for several of us to move around across several other islands, but thanks to the disrupting of sea monsters, we had to look for an island that no creature of the sea could reach."
"What kind of sea monsters have you fought before?"
"Oh, not that many, but the merrows are the ones we need to look out for the most. A long time ago, The Sea God rampaged through all the seven seas, attacking ships, eating crowds of people, and consuming all the fish. It was turning into a sea of death, with the water world being it's graveyard."
"A tribe of merrows decided to wage war with our Sea God, with many of them dying off. But those bastards managed to seal our God here onto this island, powerless to sail at the sea."
"But he still had the power to attack our residents, especially at the full moon and high tides. Every other fishermen or pirate that tried coming near the Sea God would suffer by his tentacles. To appease him, we provide him with several offerings an thank us for his eternal forgiveness."
You feel fear on their voices, and thanks to your Od reading, you see several people being sacrificed over the years to survive on the island, women and children having their heart ripped out of their bodies and offered to the crater under the other side of the shore. Despite doing this for generations, they do not seem to be happy with that outcome.
"Or at least that's how it went, until the shiny pearl at the bottom of the sea was planted here. Our last visitor said that she could free us from The Sea God's reign of terror, so long as she was left alone and no other magical creature ever came to bother her."
"Just to be sure, what's the name of the woman who did that for you?"
"She called herself Sivir. She seemed very disillusioned with her own life to offer herself as a sacrifice at the first mention of the sea god, but since her magic is so powerful, she managed to keep him inside his cave by merely walking inside the cave. We are very thankful for her and the changes she brought upon Nostos, but we have grown too used to our old ways to not venerate the Old Gods, you never know when he might break free, afterall."
