There was no triumphant kill or slaughter that caused the tides to turn. As a couple more of the Skitarii were killed by stray las fire the constructs too were slowly drained of their bodies. One after another the bodies stopped to be replenished by the ever coming horde.
When the tides changed Lorch felt the change in their demeanor. As if realization dawned upon the AI that it can not win against the Astartes. In the next moment Lorch grabbed for his chainsword as the constructs began pouring themselves into the small hall at a mass number.
The Captain of the Astartes could feel it in his gut as they went past him. Numerous bodies of their kin glowing with a red light before the entire body erupted in a blaze of fire in a self destruction. The fire erupted out of their bodies and covered the Skitarii who were all trying their best to melee these creatures to death.
But they could not succeed in something so vital to their survival.
With a thought the Astartes reached over to one of the now flaming corpses and threw it at the onslaught of machines. In an instant all of the othe Machines began to catch alight as whatever internal components caught the fire. In the next moment the entire hallway was caught and in the next a foam was sent crashing upon them as the AI did not want the fire to spread.
Lorch looked over to see his remaining Astartes put out the last of the fires as they glanced at one another. The Captain felt himself take a breath as the fires died to reveal that the onslaught was over.
“Roll call.” Declared the Astartes as he glanced at the two downed Astartes. It was then that he noticed the position of the two, kneeling down to lift his fallen battle brother from the four Skitarii who were covered by their bodies.
He could hear their hearts beat, the Skitarii looking upon him with awe and wonder. Taking and setting his Battlebrother to the side he reached down and assisted the few remaining Skitarii up from their place of safety.
+Thank you.+ The Skitarii finally spoke as they kneeled to the fallen Astartes and began muttering prayers.
Lorch looked over to see L3KT, the Acillian heavily wounded but still standing after the onslight. Though instead of the pinkish red blood of an Astartes Lorch saw that Acillians instead bled black. It was like even their blood was made of oil.
+We move forward. The AI has failed to defend itself.+ He declared before picking up the Omnispex from a dead Skitarii.
