Hang on to your seats, because things are about to get bad.
You take a long shower, shampooing and conditioning your hair until it smells like coconut and feels silky to the touch. It feels good to wash off the cold sweat from the nightmare that woke you up earlier. After the shower, you apply some light makeup, just enough to accentuate your features without looking overdone. You put on some lip gloss and give yourself a final once-over in the mirror. You look pretty good, you think.
As you head to the lobby, your nerves start to kick in. You take a deep breath and remind yourself that you're a likable person. You can do this. You walk into the lobby and see the upperclassmen.
"Hey guys," you say, trying to sound confident.
"Hey!" Michela says. "We're so glad you could join us!" Michela is the leader of the small group. She has long, blonde hair that falls in soft waves around her shoulders, and she looks effortlessly feminine and pretty. Her features are delicate and her smile is warm and inviting, making you feel instantly at ease.
"Yeah, we were just about to start a dance party. You want to join in?" another upperclassman asks.
"Absolutely, I'd love to!"
High energy pop music blasts from the speakers, and you let yourself get lost in the beat. Your dance moves are carefree and playful, mirroring those around you. After the music stops, you chat for a bit.
"Hey, guys. What do you think looks better on girls, ribbons or lab coats?"
Michela is the first to respond. "Lab coats? What do you mean?" she asks.
You explain to them that you saw a lab coat in the science classroom and have been strangely obsessed about it since then.
"I think ribbons are cuter," Michela says, "but wear whatever makes you feel good."
You smile and nod, grateful for their acceptance. As you chat and gossip with them, you learn some unsettling secrets about the school. They share stories of students who have gone missing without any explanation. You shudder at the thought of such a thing happening.
One of them warns you about the monsters that roam the campus when it's dark, advising you to never walk alone at night. They tell you about one of their missing friends who was rumored to have turned into a monster with a long, black neck, and was sent away to rehab never to be seen again.
The upperclassmen also caution you about resisting against the school or the teachers. They claim that anyone who tries to go against the school's rules or policies is likely to face dire consequences. You feel a growing sense of unease as you listen to their stories, wondering what other dark secrets the school may be hiding.
