You hesitated for a long while, and even considered turning her down on principle. But instead, you decided that there was enough goodwill between you and the synthezoid that she wouldn’t think to betray you without considering the effect that might have on her relationship to the Desperados and the rest of the Kravinoff family.
“Sure. I was actually looking for someone who could tell me about a way to ramp up the production of my webs.”
It was true. Your new power used up far too much webbing than was necessary, and you’d been meaning to have someone look into the issue when you got home. And while you weren’t too keen on letting someone you’d only known for a week or two have access to your medical and personal information, you felt that the risk was worth the reward. If this meant that you’d have a better grasp on your fire powers, then you’d even be willing to let her take your temperature with a cold, gloved hand.
Gloria smiled slightly, pleased by your decision.
“Excellent. We’ll begin right away.”

The next few days passed in a blur. Various scientists and doctors passed you around like a dodgeball, all of them bringing in their own equipment to perform blood work and a series of extremely invasive medical examinations. But most annoying of all was the seemingly endless barrage of questions they had you answer. You refused to give them any personal information that would divulge your origin or identity, but you had to wonder whether that was important anymore. They’d already taken your blood and scanned your biological signature. At this point, all they’d need were your fingerprints, SSN and a mugshot to complete the collection.
You didn’t like it, but you just kept telling yourself that it would all be worth it in the end. If there was anything positive that you got out of this, it was a list of dietary restrictions that was supposed to make your webbing thicker, and a bit more durable. You were also provided with vitamin supplements that could boost your body’s production of web fluid. You’d just need to be careful about taking them while you were at maximum capacity. Doing so could cause tightness in the arms, or great discomfort in…other areas.
Absently, you wondered what everyone else was up to. Prowler was undoubtedly working on new gadgets and gizmos to compensate for his weaknesses, and Ana would be restocking on hunting gear. You didn’t really know what Cat had planned, but you hoped that it would be enough to keep her alive and safe during the mission.
As for Flint…you weren’t even sure if it’d be safe for him to descend into the base with you. Maybe if he invested in an airtight scuba suit, or if you transported him in a submarine. Either way, the presence of so much water, the one thing that Flint couldn’t reliably defend against, made you nervous about his chances down there.
