Class was over before you knew it, as it always seemed to be, and as you all walked out of the lecture hall, Shin looked from you and Tsukuya, wondering what it was you had to tell him. You didn’t leave him waiting long however, turning around to face him as soon as you were in private.
You clapped a hand on his shoulder, ignoring the strain it took to reach up that high. “Shin. Me and Tsukuya-chan’re leavin’.”
His eyes widened in shock at that. “What?”
You took your hand back, rolling your neck as you clarified. “Remember that other Captain from the day they came to see us? Hirako-taicho, from the 5th? He approached me, basically said there was a free spot in his Division whenever I wanted it. I told him that I’d only take it if I could bring Tsukuya-chan, and well… he agreed.”
“Wait, so you’re… you guys are leaving now?”
At that, you shook your head. “We were gonna, but-“
“We were going to, but I reminded Danketsu-kun that not everyone is as strong as he is. Or as reasonable.” Tsukuya interrupted, the fact she did so surprising you as you raised an eyebrow. Independency in the face of dependence…
Shin shifted his attention from you to her, now looking at the noble confused. “What do you mean?”
“She’s worried that that idiot Tsunayashiro’ll try somethin’ with you as soon as we’re gone, and she’s got a point, especially after how yesterday went down. So I thought we can leave Hirako-taicho stewing for a few days longer, while we make sure you’re ready for anything they can throw at ya.” You say, taking control of the conversation again.
“Oh… right, I get it. Yeah, I probably couldn’t take all of them at once, so…” Shin looked down, seemingly ashamed of his own weakness, but you had no interest in dealing with stupid self-esteem issues. Tsukuya’s had been annoying enough, and you didn’t even really have to do anything to deal with them.
“Don’t feel like you’re weak or nothin’, man. Remember, they’re nobles - who knows how much trainin’ they got before now? You had nothin’ at all, yet you’re matchin’, or even outmatchin’ ‘em. It’s not shameful to not be strong enough now, not when you’re sure you’ll be strong enough when ya need ta be.”
You turn away, looking at the training ground. “Now come on. We ain’t leavin’ today till ya can do a shunpo.”
