>>6153036The sandworm lunges towards you, its maw open wide and ready to devour. You may not have possessed Nadia’s anti-Terror spell, but you had a gut feeling you could do real damage to this thing if you angled your attack the right way. And speaking of guts, you intended to incinerate the ones belonging to this monster. Tristain d’Rusalka was no one’s meal! As quickly as the creature attacks you, you raise your hand forth and summon the power of the Crest of Macuil, launching a fireball that sails forth into the open mouth of the Terror. The blaze quickly travels through the insides of the monster, resulting in another explosion of gore as it is painfully roasted alive.
>“Hah! As I said, not so tough after all.”>Crest of Macuil: 1 / 3>50xp gained! (60/100)“EWWWW!” May shrieks. The girl was covered in bits of blood and bile after having been on the receiving end of two Terrors exploding. “I HATE this! Can we PLEASE find that damn switch already?!”
>“Are any more sandworms liable to emerge from the ground and try to eat me?”“I-I believe that may be it…” Nadia breathes exhaustedly. “Terrors are exceedingly rare. And capturing one alive is extremely difficult. Not to mention the space they take up. If there really were more imprisoned within this wing, I’d be surprised.”
The group continues travelling forward through the hall, eager to get things done before they are ambushed by any more monsters. Fortunately, nothing else strikes at you unexpectedly, and you are able to reach your destination with no further issues. Another stone bust similar to the one you saw in the east wing lies at the end of the hall, and Nadia rushes over to fiddle with it.
>“Who’s this guy supposed to be anyway?” You ask, pointing to the bust Nadia was working with. There appeared to be gears on the back of the statue’s head, which she turns and plays with this way and that.“The Sorcerer King, Xenophanes.” Nadia says. “Or at least what he is believed to have looked like.”
>“Sheesh, you guys really like him. You’d think he was a god or something.”“He essentially is.” Cassius says. “Morfisians of the past had a whole pantheon of deities they worshipped. Only scant knowledge remains concerning them though. They were considered a savage bunch, and worship of them mostly ended after the Sorcerer King first arrived and performed his miracles, driving them away. The old gods still have some holdouts though. The Riahi are believed to be one such group that pays worship to a deity known only as ‘The Boatman.’”
>“Stupid name. Is he the God of Sailing or something?”“The God of Death, actually.” Cassius corrects. “Ancient Morfisians never travelled across the ocean. They believed that was where the realm of the dead lay, and that the Boatman existed to ferry souls across it when their time came.”
