“I've gotta know, how'd you do it?” you asked, unable to hide your curiosity. “My spider sense didn't tingle. Not even once.”
Ami Han put a hand up to her mouth and chuckled. You felt like you've heard that laugh somewhere before.
“‘Spider sense’? Is that what you call your danger sense? What an adorable name.”
Anastasia, knife still in-hand, circled around to flank the white fox. The way she seemed to loom over Ami Han left no room for doubt as to whether she trusted the trickster demon.
“You knew about it beforehand.” she surmised.
“I did some digging. Some people seem to believe that you have eyes in the back of your head.” Ami Han explained, seemingly not bothered at all by Ana’s proximity to her.
Her vulpine eyes were still on you.
“If that were true, I'd need to put lenses in the back of my mask too.” you joked.
“Why don't ya ask Shock here ta make it for ya?” Flint put in, leaning his head towards Ember. “You're always bringing back a new suit every other week.”
“I could make it for you,” Ember offered. “So long as you don't mind looking stupid.”
“Oh, he's never needed help looking-”
“When the hell did you two become such good friends?” you cut in.
“You never answered his question earlier.” Ana pointed out, forcefully dragging the conversation back on track.
“Yeah. How'd you do it?” Cindy insisted.
Ami Han took another slow sip of her tea, and panned her gaze around the room.
“I made two assumptions. One, was that you were unable to accurately predict what it was that triggered your danger sense. And the other was that it behaved differently from traditional precognition. Otherwise, you would have anticipated this meeting taking place.” she explained, setting the cup down after a while. “And I thought to myself, ‘what if one were to mask their intent by hiding behind another?’. Would you be able to distinguish one from the other?”
Your eyes widened slightly as you began to unravel what it was that she was implying. If she had acted during your fight with Rajang, and somehow carefully timed her movements to fit within a narrow window of opportunity, would that have been enough to trick your spider sense? You honestly didn't know.
“And then, I considered a third thing!” Ami Han went on excitedly, her accent growing a little thicker. “If I mean no harm, then the danger sense has no reason to go off.”
She clapped her hands decisively, pretending as if that explanation was a sufficient one.
“Or you just used your bargaining chip to get your foot in the door.” Cindy suggested.
“Who can say for sure?” Ami Han said with a slight shrug and a carefree look on her face.
“Actually, I was more concerned by how you kidnapped Cindy.” you added with a raised finger.
Ami Han's brows furrowed.
