You eagerly make your way outside of Hogwarts castle, excited for your first Care of Magical Creatures lesson. The grounds are alive with the sounds of nature as you make your way to a spot where Hagrid, your teacher, is waiting with a cage full of creatures. A motley crew of students from different houses has already gathered around him, chatting excitedly as they wait for the lesson to begin. Professor Kettleburn is sick and unable to teach today, so Hagrid is stepping in as the substitute professor for the day's lesson.
Hagrid introduces the creatures as Blast-Ended Skrewts, a cross between a Manticore and a Fire Crab, and urges the class to approach them with caution. You watch in amazement as Hagrid lights a candle to reveal the Skrewts' undersides, which are covered in thick armour. As you nervously step forward to take a closer look, one of the Skrewts blasts a powerful jet of flame in your direction.
You stumble back in surprise, but Hagrid quickly reassures you that the Skrewts won't harm you as long as you treat them with respect. He then proceeds to demonstrate how to milk the creatures for their venom, which is used in the production of various potions. From the corner of your eye, you notice that Terry Boot has frozen in place. It becomes clear that he is absolutely terrified of the creatures and refuses to come near them. Despite Hagrid's attempts to coax him closer, Terry remains rooted to the spot, watching from a safe distance.
You approach the Skrewts tentatively, hoping to avoid their stingers. They look even more dangerous up close, with their tough exoskeletons and writhing tails. Hagrid instructs the class to milk them for their venom, but you're not sure how to approach the task. As you reach for the Skrewt nearest to you, it lets out a loud hiss and lashes its tail in your direction. You quickly step back, nearly tripping over a rock, and nervously eye the creature. Hagrid reminds you that the Skrewts can sense fear, and you take a deep breath, trying to calm your nerves.
