>>5419656On the old qtg thread I was discussing space opera with that DM anon and I agree it can get quite ridiculous as the fundamental premise of space opera is vast space which is hard to convey without suspension of disbelief etc in any game which does not just convey parsecs of emptiness and nothing. I think the older Dune film, the Lynch 1984 one handled it better visually, instead of trying to make it realistic like the Villeneuve Dune helicopters in Iraq, what Lynch did is he embraces the ridiculousness and surreal nature of it all.
Here the Dune Heighliner is inexplicably depicted as a gigantic golden gilded gate/painting frame suspended in space.
This imagery is far more bizarre than Yet Another Vaguely Futuristic Sci-Fi Star Portal Construct etc. it makes you think of space as something inwardly accessed, psychological space from any image-painting. This is the sort of feel I am trying to capture in my settings.
