In the keep of the Lady Louve, Mirabel and Lovisa had set to work sweeping the floors, and after a time began to speak freely to one another. "Have you ever been to Redgate?" Mirabel asked the other maiden, for the thought of her appointed destination was never far from mind.
Lovisa nodded and looked out at the morning sky. "Once," she said. "They have a festival this time of year."
The morning sun continued to rise. "Is the swamp dangerous?" Mirabel asked, and Lovisa smiled.
