"What do I want to know? How about what YOU should know about your lil ol' pal Benny!" You do a long, sweeping gesture to point at the bespectacled man. He tries his best to hide by sinking into his chair. "See, he saved the fuckin' day! Without him, I would've been chopped meat!"
"Oh?" Max coos. "Go on. Tell me more about this brave little hero of mine." This gets another embarrassed groan out of Ben.
>16: GREAT SUCCESS
"Well, you see, we were sneaking around this really shady looking joint to find out what illegal shit could be going on." You lower your voice to sell the story you're trying to spin. "We even had to deal with a few spooky thugs but we tore them to shreds with our abilities. That's not the important thing, though!"
"We found this spooky robo-perfectionist chef abnormality who wanted to turn us into chopped meat! The thing had me pinned against the wall and, for your information, it had a GIANT blade for an arm! It would've torn me up worse than anything in the world!"
"But...that's when HE came rushing in with a needle filled with some weird liquid in it! The damn robot only had a bit of flesh left around its neck so he jabbed it RIGHT FUCKING THERE!" A manic grin crosses your face. "And he PLUNGED IT DEEP, REAL GOD DAMN DEEP! Before I knew anything, the thing fell to the ground and passed out!"
"Hm." Max turns her focus towards Benjamin. She narrows her eyes before something clicks in her head. "Wait. Wait, wait, hold on. Was it a tranquilizer?"
"Uh, yes." Benjamin speaks up after you're done telling your story. "I whipped it up real quick to try saving her. I didn't have a lot of time to perfect it." He chuckles, telling a half truth. Your story isn't all made up either. All good lies are based on a grain of truth. "I felt like I had to. Working with her was better than the other people you recommended to me."
Max's face twists into a nervous frown. "Yeah, yeah, I know I'm not the best when it comes to finding good people." The frown disappears after she's busy processing your story. "Well, I'm glad you made a new friend today."
Benjamin lets out a relieved sigh when he sees she bought the story. He flashes a small smile at you before nodding. "Yeah. She's a bit weird but...eh, who isn't?" Any tension in the air has disappeared. The two seem to be in a pretty good mood now.
"And if he was THAT reliable, imagine how reliable YOU are!" You jab your finger at Max. "A friend of a friend is my friend. I think if someone like HIM could save my life, why not you?"
"Pft. Me? Saving someone's life? Honey, honey, I don't think you understand me at all." Despite this, she's pulling out her flip phone. "Alright. On one condition. If he's on the same mission, I'm willing to come a LOT cheaper. Otherwise, you gotta pay my full price."
"The prices are?
"$175 without him, $95 with. Sounds fair enough to me. Anyways, here's my number, weirdo."
