>>5347435“You see mutants, work with them every day…” You press on, leaning in further on the counter. “Are you honestly going to tell us that you believe everything the news spits out after everything you’ve seen?”
Again, Shaw is silent. The tension in the room is thick enough to cut with a knife, but you’re undeterred, your dark-eyed reflection visible in his oversized glasses.
"Something big is about to go down, and we need to warn the Healer beforehand just in case things don't go our way.” Your tone is foreboding, ominous even, as you direct your words at him. “She'll want to hear this, unless she wants to try making money from inside a FutureLabs cell."
“I–” Shaw starts, but he doesn’t even get the chance to finish his sentence as the door behind him bursts open, revealing none-other-than the Healer.
“Hey!” She seems surprised at the small gathering in the pharmacy’s lobby. “You didn’t tell me the M-Guard was here– and Boleski! Just what have you been doing to yourself?” She huffs, quickly spotting the numerous, fresh burn wounds on his person.
“Pharos is here too.” Shaw makes a motion to Valjean, using his last-ditch attempt to get his daily dose of petty revenge. At this point, he’s not even trying to be subtle, hellbent on making this whole thing as difficult for you as possible.
“I don’t know who that guy is, but it isn’t Pharos.” The Healer points to Valjean, who’s trying to hold back the smuggest grin known to man. Lifting her glasses to peer at the former Crux leader, she stares for a few seconds before saying, “Doesn’t look like Pharos at all.”
“But–”
“No, stop trying to tell me there are Crux members still around– they’re all long-gone. We haven’t seen any of them in months, so for once can you stop going on-and-on about them?!” She shouts, visibly aggravated.
“Dammit, Shaw, we go through this every week.” The Healer throws a hand into the air. “And I thought I was the one who was paranoid here!” She snorts derisively.
Shaw is left gobsmacked from the Healer’s outburst. Evidently at a loss for words, he is unable to do anything but stare into the blank space of his desk.
