I've found them to be handy for worldbuilding and filling in a few cracks in the narrative--though I also like giving my players a chance to decide what kind of dream they wanna see, be it a NIGHTMARE, MEMORY, or GOOD DREAM. Naturally having short sequences when the protag is incapacitated or something is a good time for 'em too, but all in moderation.
