>>5328168“What does Atticus Charles think he’s going to do with you by keeping you alive?” You segue the conversation to a topic that’s been weighing on your mind the most.
Briefly, you considered the idea of Conduit’s torture being some sort of retaliation against Eddie himself. However, because not even Atticus Charles knew of Eddie’s consciousness transferral abilities, you ended up discarding that idea.
That’s why it’s plain to see that there’s something more to this whole thing if Atticus Charles is going through all the extra trouble to keep Conduit alive.
As Conduit had been paying more attention to the stars in the sky than you, he takes a good, long moment to consider your question. “I’ve got a theory…” He says after a beat, fidgeting in the sand.
“Shoot.” You prompt him, because you’re sure that Conduit– being at the center of this whole operation– will have some better insight on this than you.
Still, there's an odd mixture of discomfort and fear emanating from the other mutant that’s making him hold his tongue. However, since you went through all of the trouble to get here, whatever he’s not telling you is likely something you’ll need to know. Conduit knows this as well.
His shoulders slump, and there’s a look in his eyes that you can’t quite discern. “I’m probably going to become a glorified mutant-tracker for FutureLabs, once I’m fully gone.” He tells you, and you know he doesn’t mean dead.
But once the implications of Conduit’s words finally register, you can’t help the inkling of dread that makes its way down your throat. Nonetheless, you let him continue.
“The doctor doesn’t know about this place yet, but I know he’ll find out. And trust me when I say he wants every mutant, including the latent ones.” Conduit informs you. “Bet that one asshole would’ve loved to know that half of Konigsburg is latent mutants…” He says offhandedly.
