"It's not my first time having to do something like this, actually." Adam whistles as he cleans his chef's blade with his handkerchief. "Hell, I was basically Bene's doctor for the longest time. Mostly minor stuff like scratches, though!"
"YOUR WORK WAS. AMATEUR. BUT VERY APPRECIATED AT. THE TIME." Benedict stutters out. He stares at the blood still oozing from his blade with an odd fascination twinkling in his eyes. Adam immediately wipes at the blood with his own handkerchief, snapping Benedict out of his haze.
"Thank god the trauma kits are super user friendly." You hiss under your breath.
"It was...nice getting some practice in, even if it wasn't in the best circumstances. I suppose it's nice to have a backup plan in case everything falls through, you know?"
[OVERCORRECTION] A nervous energy bounces throughout every word Adam says. "I mean, considering the restaurant and going on missions like this and Benedict and-"
[OVERCORRECTION] "Hard not to worry these days. Especially after hearing about singularities and apparently Benedict is a concept made manifest and seeing you fighting an anomaly and-" His breathing is getting hectic, shallow. "-holy shit am I going to die when I go back to the City-"
"I just want to make sure I can help people, you know? Is it wrong to feel that way?" Adam stares at you with pleading eyes.
However, you're not the one to answer first.
"IT Is Not Wrong." Benedict's throat makes an odd mechanical clicking sound. "HOWEVER. I. She TolD mE. SOMETHING THAt Fits here. All you have to Do is keeP trying. W-Worrying yOURSElf Sick about how to. Feel. wiLl only hurt you."
You nod at what Benedict said, though you can't hide your shock at him speaking up like this. "Yeah. Take one step at a time, Adam. You did good. I feel a lot better. That's all that matters."
Adam lets out a pained, shuddering breath before quickly nodding. "Okay. I'm glad. Just feels like if I don't have something I can do, I'll go insane." He straightens his posture and firmly clears his throat. "Thanks, though. That cleared my mind a bit."
>+0.5 RAPPORT with ADAM! HE'LL GAIN AN UPGRADE NEXT TIME YOU HIRE HIM!
ADAM BOON ACQUIRED!
>[PRACTICING SURGEON] Really, the line between butchery and surgery is razor thin. Twice per mission, if an ally is in a CRITICAL STATE or has a CRIPPLING INJURY, Adam may heal them without consuming any resources.
"You should probably meet up with the others. I'll stay behind with Benedict." As you prepare to get up and leave, Adam clears his throat again. "And, uh, after this mission? I'll probably have to ask for you to pay me. First two times were only free as a favor for, uh, Benedict."
>Adam now costs $75 to hire!
You shrug. "I really don't blame you after what I dragged you through these last few days." And you rather not argue with the guy who just patched you up for (mostly) free-
[UNSTABLE] BORING.
You lose consciousness for a split second. Suddenly, you're standing in front of Lex and Ashley.
