In the end, the Elder calls off your interrogation and the torturer. You aren't free to go, however. You must be listed as MIA back at your base- and you know the Centralia army wouldn't risk an international incident to come looking for you here...
For now, you remain in the town filled with blondes. The small village is very rural and rustic- a mountain town where time and people move and talk slowly. It's a big change of pace from the big cities where you are from. With nothing else to do, you sit in the town square and watch the people go by.
It's interesting to look at them. The blondes are different from the Mainlanders- not just the color, but their physiology is slightly different. It's also interesting as you see their faces and bodies- you don't see a single one obese, critically underweight, or any number of facial or skeletal anomalies. You begin to piece together a theory as to why that is; the blondes have a more rough way of life then the Mainlanders. They still have access to most medicine, like the antibiotics they put you on, but their technology and infrastructure is not enough to allow every little underweight baby and sickly child to survive. People here have to be tough- you figure it has a eugenic effect. Look at how all of their males have the thick skin on their muzzles- a trait bred out of many Mainlanders which makes them unable to eat prickly fruits and sharp, sticking insects. Look at how long and strong their tails are- enough spidermonkey admixture from the prehistoric days exist to keep them able to support their own weight with a tail.
You figure you're going to be here a while. What should you do?
