Daitza stares at you, waiting that you tell her what the exchange was about, so you fill her in as usual. "Gondar wanted to warn us that we must not pay attention to anything the demon says, or it's gonna start messing with our minds."
"Mmhmmm..." She nods slowly. For some reason, there's a skeptical look drawn on her face. "Something here isn't right, Hyeny. Don't you find it odd that he trusted *us* with killing the fiend instead of anyone else?"
The first thought you have when hearing this is that she's being a little paranoid again. After all, this is the same attitude she holds towards Anu. But, when you actually consider her words... you find that she might have a point, though you're not sure it's enough to accuse Gondar of anything. “Well, he DID say it would devour his soul in his sleep if he shared his secret with other people. Maybe he doesn’t want the rumor to spread in fear that the demon finds out?”
Your pal lowers her gaze and adopts a thinking expression. “Even if it’s true, what stops the priests from taking care of the matter *before* he goes to bed? Isn’t that precisely what we’re about to do? The dwarf can have his problem solved anytime he wants... but his *only* solution after all these months is to send two foreign gnolls to do the dirty work. Why?"
Now that she points that out, you notice there ARE indeed some missing pieces on Gondar's story. First of all, how the hell did the demon made its way into the mines, somehow bypassing all the guards you've seen constantly patrol the halls? And why didn't he ignore its obvious bluffs and tell the priests to get rid of that creature? Why tell YOU of all people? A strong hunch tells you there’s way more to this task than the smith wants to reveal...
