>>5143477As the scenery changed from the horrific imagery it was previously to a dried up forest at fall, you noticed that the trees were still drying and losing their lives, compared to the lushes of green present in your first year of training. What changed?
"The dark age of the God Hand is upon us. The less trees around, the easier for the woodland creatures to leave or die trying, scaring off the rodent's natural predators as they proliferate in populated towns. It would also make us an easier target for invadors, but the flesh creatures are too little in size for us to worry about that now." Merlina observes the soil turning grey and dead, reflecting on her future burial sight.
The Silver Eyed woman was a lot more talkative now, even if she preffered to keep her distance, she was growing happier after seeing nature healing from Hedwyn's sacrifices. Thanks to that, she explained at length on how good magicians could use advanced spells like summoning ancient kings, severing the Od flow from others, talking telepathically with others beyond this dimension, and borrowing power from the elementals to take whatever form the caster wished. But even when you spent the entire day reading the scribes and experimenting with magic, you could never learn anything past basic telepathy as you managed to read Merlina's mind and communicate with her clearly a dozen meters away from her, while she seemingly had no limited range with hers.
"Strange. Your body might have gotten too accustomed with observing the movement of the spirits, instead of the other way around. With your eyes being so used to seeing the astral world, it should be a lot easier for you to separate your soul from your body. Why is not working?" Even Merlina was puzzled on why you were failing to learn intermediate magic.
>With one full year of magic training, all you had to show in new techniques was short-ranged telepathy, being able to link minds with people without needing to let your voice be heard by others."Since you're having so much trouble learning clairvoyance, I suppose I can serve as a bridge between your eyes and your companions." Merlina's hands touched a nearby puddle as it's reflection disappeared into nothingness, reflective surfaces could easily serve as a spectating mirrors into places from far away, but if your magic was limited, you could not communicate with them that way, or even see people you did not know.
"Is there anyone in particular you would like to see?"
