At this very moment, as you were rummaging through cabinets and closets, searching for expensive-looking drugs in the medical wing of an abandoned undersea base, you couldn’t help but feel that nothing was going your way today.
This mission was supposed to be a simple smash and grab. Find the girls, grab the converter, and smash whoever gets in your way. Only, the obstacles you found down here were too numerous and deadly to be smashed by simple means.
Unlike the Morlocks, you had no history with the Brood. However, that did nothing to prevent you from developing an intense hatred for the freakish hellspawn. And on top of everything, now you were being told by your new unlikely ally—an Iron Man wannabe wearing the colors of the American Flag—that these things were trying to sneak through a portal that would allow them to invade your planet from multiple entry points.
All that made you want to do was blow up this facility once you were done here! You hated this place, and you hated these stupid fucking bugs for forcing you to creep around and plan around them. You desperately wanted to go home at this point. You wanted to see your sister, eat a pizza at Mr. Aziz’s place, and kick back on your couch.
Instead, you were skulking around in this dark, dank facility at the bottom of the sea.
You heard a nearby groan that mirrored your feelings exactly.
“I know. I don’t like this either, but this should all pay off once we’re out of here.”
It took you a moment to realize that everyone was giving you strange looks. You heard another groan, but you didn’t think that it was coming from any of your allies. Just then, your spider sense flared up, and you saw a shambling, decomposing figure hobbling towards you. Was that a…a zombie!?
Instinctively, you reached for your knife, but Anastasia’s reactions were faster than yours. A sharp blade flew past your head and implanted itself in the undead creature’s skull, killing it instantly.
A moment later, two more rounded the corner, their arms outstretched towards you. You were ready this time, your knives in your hands and poised to strike, but something else intervened before you could respond.
A pair of thick, vine-like tendrils coiled around their legs and forcefully dragged them back around the corner. You and the others moved to chase after them, not wanting to get cornered in this room by an undead horde. You managed to catch a glimpse of them being dragged into a nearby room, and you cautiously followed the trail to peak inside. Everyone was on high alert at this point. You needed to take care of this without making too much noise, or the Brood would be all over your ass in a minute.
