It was a few days after their conversation that they arrived at the chambers. Around the area there were no signs of the fortress ahead. To Lucian it was any other part of the Underway covered in phosphorescent fungus and stone. Yet when the Dwarfs made their way over and opened the wall to reveal what might have been another hideout Lucian felt surprise.
Instead of the hideout that they were use to it was instead a moderately sized hallway that looked wide enough to accommodate a cart. The Scouts took point easily enough with the rest of them coming in on foot. Lucian had to dismount Nightshade, the mighty warhorse being just that little bit too tall for Dwarfen escape routes.
The same went for Tee-Nee-Tyny, the Lizard having to dismount Bok as Adok came through narrowly with the donkey drawn cart. If Truffles was bothered by the close quarters the Donkey did not show anything on its worn white face.
They made their way through the chambers for what must have been miles. The simple fact was for Dwarfs to do something they never gave it half heed or measure. When the Dwarfs created an escape route from their fortress they were going to make one so great that none would be likely to find it or those that used it.
Lucian also noticed that the lumenant fungus that was in the main chamber was gone now. The Knight having to rely upon the soft torchlight that was dangling from Adok’s cart. Its movement back and forth was the only thing that really kept Lucian’s mind on the situation at hand. After all there was no talking, no loud noises, or singing from the Dwarfs.
To do so would mean a quick death.
It was however within this passage, not the Underway, that Lucian noticed the signs of the hidden path becoming something like handmade works. The scouts trailed their hands across the stonework looking for something that Lucian did not know would be there. Whatever he was doing, they continued to walk several miles worth of passage through what were smooth stoned walls with minimal decorations upon the walls.
