>>6157454A part of you admittedly felt bad for 99. She was imprisoned at no fault of her own, and was a victim of poor circumstances. It was evident that she posed a threat to Morfis, but that was only due to her abilities as a Magic Seal. Still, if these abilities could be implanted in her, perhaps they could also be removed? While you couldn’t do anything for the girl now, maybe you could in the future. You make a mental note to ask Bronte when you see her, adding to her already growing list of tasks.
>“Don’t worry about it. Once I’m King, I’ll make sure the Royal College turns you back to normal. And once you’re a regular kid again, you’re free to do whatever you want. Sound good?”“Really?” 99 asks. She tries not to get her hopes up, but you can sense a sort of optimism coming from her. “You’d do that?”
>“I said I would, so I will. Just hang tight for now until I come calling. Deal?”99 nods enthusiastically, smiling bright and wide. “Deal!”
The two of you shake on it. Admittedly, your motivations are not entirely selfless. You figure it might be worth it to get on the girl’s good side now while she still has her powers. If you ever needed to shut the lights off on one of those high sorcerers in Morfis, it would be good to have her in your back pocket. And once you became King, it would be for the best if there weren’t any little girls running around with the power to shut down your country’s mages.
You make to leave the room, and Elric stands up to follow. Before the two of you can go, 99 realizes she has forgotten something. Running over to one of the crates in the back of the room, she reaches inside, fumbling around. Out of the box, she retrieves what looks to be a sword. The sheath is inlaid with gold, and the guard of the sword, which has been crafted in the image of bat wings, has a creepy looking red orb entombed. Holding it with both hands, she runs over to Elric and offers it to him.
“This is for you. For keeping me company and telling me those stories. I know you’ll make a great warrior one day, Sir Elric.”
“Lady 99.” Elric breathes, touched by her generosity. “This blade looks incredible! Is it truly okay for you to part with such a gift?”
99 shrugs. “It’s just been sitting in there with all the other junk.”
Why were they keeping a sword down here? No matter.
>“Hey, don’t I get anything?”99 reaches into her pocket, fiddling around. Her hand comes back with a gemstone. It reminds you of the Red Gem you’d pilfered off the pirate captain, only this one shines with a bright green instead. She places the stone in the palm of your hand.
“I get lots of gifts like this. I don’t like the jewels though. They’re kinda boring. You can have that one.”
