Do keep in mind that all weapons and armor are personal possessions, so you won't find a spear just lying about for public use. Either you borrow one from a willing dwarf, the smith hands you one he crafted for someone else, or you ask him to forge a custom weapon for you (along with armour if you want).
So which one of these two did you mean by 'armory"? Going to the barracks means you'll stumble upon Arthur and lots of dwarves training there, while going to the forge means you'll find the smith and a few servants. You can get weapons and torches in either place, but a dwarf will have to do you a favour regardless.
If I don't get answers in 1 hour I'll assume you guys meant the forge and write the update based on that.
