This game is pretty dark FEAR is a horror game and it is 17 years old lol.
I always found the background lore about psychic ghost army military commander girl Alma very interesting and there were some detailed worldbuilding touches (for example, you fight some mysterious scary optical camouflage invisible ninjas in an aerospace & defense corporation office. Later on in FEAR 2 I think it is revealed they are some sort of ultralight engineered low-gravity space program specimens, hence the enlengthened limbs transparent skeletal skin etc)
