“They come, they come!” Shouted one of the men as the monsters broke through the gates and started to spill through.
In the moonlight Lucian could see them modestly well. Their underbellies, which were covered in white fur, were stark and colorful when it came to seeing them within the darkness. What made it hard was their dark upper coat, a gray mesh that might as well have been as black and night when looking at it from the darkness like this.
“BRACE!” One of the men yelled from the lines and the rest of the men followed the instructions. Just like the times Lucian had fought in the peasant mobs of the Bretonnians these men had arrayed themselves into a sort of block formation that placed several of them at the front.
Those poor men were the first to feel the impact as one of the beasts threw themselves into the crowd of men. Many of them were wielding shields, the wood taking the impact as they were taken off their feet through the sheer force of the leap. For the werewolf’s trouble several of the spearmen who were in the back behind the shield bearers.
Their weapons were cushioned for the charge and placed the full weight of the monster upon them. The iron tipped spear dug deeply and greedily as the full weight of the monster drove it through. Several of the weapons were instantly shattered as men either tried to hold their weapons or the monster who was upon them attempted to shake off the sticks in mid flight.
Lucian watched as three men infront of him were instantly killed. The sight of the massacre welling strength within his heart and fire from the rune that was settled upon his breast. From behind him Bok was already throwing itself upon the creature, large powerful hands taking it off its feet and sending it prone upon the ground while trying to get a grip upon the neck with his long snout.
He did not need to for Lucian was already upon it, his scythe digging into the exposed neck with a flash of might.
Blood scattered across the ground as Bok ripped the wolf skull off the human body and tossed it. The men around him, stunned by sheer brutality, did not wait long as another of the creatures were coming their way.
“Regroup, regroup!” Yelled one of the men as two more of the monsters were upon them.
