"If that'll be all, we can begin the check-up. Please, have your slave put her hand on the device." He motioned to a gadget that looked like a crystal ball. You remember these being pretty typical in isekai as truth detectors or measuring magic or as beginner's stat-checking. He had gone in exhaustive detail about it at the insistence of your first wife and yourself. Apparently it's based off a Savant-made artifact created with rare magical materials, initially created to tell someone's mana and life force. It was eventually tinkered, and a lesser version was mass produced to check people's general health and women's pregnancy. The only downside was that making a read took a while to finish.
"I'm here, so there's no reason to worry." You tell Herta as you lean closer to her. "Remember," You whispered to her ear. "If you behave, I'll personally reward that maso-bitch cunt of yours." This seemed to give your wife some consolation.
Some cute harpy nurses entered and left, bringing and taking things to and from the doctor as he needed them. A textile cuff was wrapped around Herta's arm to take blood pressure, as the doctor looked between a pocket watch and a strange machine that was connected to said cuff. Odd magical glasses were used to look into her eyes and ears, and both you and your wife were questioned on health matters. Everything was less modern than you were used to, but at least things like bloodletting weren't happening. The doctor scoffed when you mentioned if it was still practiced.
"Mr. Doe, with all due respect, I am not so behind the times that I'd practice such a thing. Now, as for the readings of the kymograph and pneumograph..."
All the while he went from one topic to the next. Unlike other harpies, he didn't seem to have a single-track mind and was calmer than his nurse slave-wives seemed to be. The doctor claimed his constant talking was "in order to keep patients' minds from worrying too much" You suspected he just liked talking.
"A few daughters of mine inherited my plumage. Which is strange, considering out of my 5 harpy wives not one of them an owl. Feathery men like myself are becoming a rare sight." He sighs. "It is truly a sad thing, to see a species slowly get done for. We used to be the third most populous subgroup a few centuries ago, you know? Anyway, back to my 4th daughter's 12th birthday-"
"Doctor, the artifact's results." You say, feeling tired from his rambling.
"It seems to be done, yes. Everything is in order. Quite right." He takes some papers out of a drawer and looks them over, glancing at the crystal ball every now and again. "I'm happy to say that you're both going to be happy parents somewhere between 37-39 weeks from now. There seem to be no complications with the pregnancy itself. Congratulations."
"Master! I'm gonna have your babies!" Herta was so excited and happy that she hugged you. You returned the act, feeling better about getting this over with than confirming what you already knew.
