>>5181579“What the hell is he saying?“ said the Scholar, “He’s like a hundred feet away and its pouring out here.”
”Doesn’t matter. The wretch spotted us,” growled the Sadist, switching his gaze to the goblin, “I thought you were good at this.”
The scout whispered something in the goblin tongue under his breath, it seemed like a curse word.
It actually was good at this, the odds of being detected by somebody in the current conditions were laughably low, yet it happened.
This didn’t seem fair. It resisted the urge to flip off Ben.
“Run into the mansion, whatever is bawling in there will distract him,” commanded the Sadist.
After a shrug, the goblin scout did as instructed.
As stealth was no longer the order of business, it simply dashed into the direction of the mansion, sliding in the wet mud, and yanked open the shutters of a window within line of sight of Ben and vaulted over the window sill.
Its muddy feet slapped down on cold tiles, a kitchen.
Most of the furniture was gone, only the oven and similar heavy equipment remained beside a rotten basket and some waterlogged cook books.
The goblin’s entry had not gone unnoticed by the current occupant of the mansion.
”H-hello? Who’s there?” said a careful voice, exploring the unknown. The voice of Grez.
There was some movement from the other chamber, somebody struggling to get up.
The half-orc winced in pain and fell back tot the floor, causing the floorboards to groan underneath the sudden weight.
Peeking its head into the hallway connecting the chambers, the goblin explored its options.
There was a staircase winding up directly opposing the door to the kitchen and three doors down the hallway to the left.
Two of which exited towards the right, leading towards the other side of the building, and one, slightly ajar, leading to the left.
The whimpering of Grez was clearly coming from the left-hand room, an orange glow leaked into the hallway through the cracked door – possibly a candle.
The scout’s eyes darted around, looking for an escape, or a place to hide.
Its vision was coloured in shades of grey as a result of its darkvision, but that was enough.
It spotted a backdoor hidden behind some debris.
“Excellent,” said the Sadist, “Escape through the back entrance.”
The scout took the first step, but was then stopped.
”Hold it,” said the Scholar, “Did you forget what we came here for? We should explore or at least eavesdrop or something.”
