“We have borne witness to another miracle in this holy place”. The man’s standards are high and his imposed penances brutally unforgiving. But he alone among your number has never doubted, never questioned you in this. Not once. The wiry old Reclaimant priest is faith incarnate. “Do either of you question it?”
The two other pilgrims glance at each other a moment before answering decisively.
“We were there in the storm, Holy Brother.” The elder Brother Joab speaks with deference, holding his right hand over his left wrist in the sign of the faith.
Brother Caleb agrees, mimicking the symbol of faith. “If you say you hear the Brother’s voice, Ζώντας Άγιος, then it is so.
“…” Brother Marcel Rousseau regards you for a few long seconds, his expression unreadable. His nods slowly, having come to some sort of decision. “…”
You stay atop the mountain summit for a while, looking out over the same view that Adam would have gazed upon in his time. The scripture says that the chasm below was full to the brim of those who had come to listen, as well the plateaus and cliffs opposite here. It is not hard to imagine his voice echoing across the valley, pure unmitigated truth dripping like water in the desert of those with ears willing to listen. And what of your own truth? Although the Almighty’s messages continue to come to you alone for the time being, this is likely the first instance where your reaction to it was witnessed so clearly by others.
The Church would doubtless prefer to be the first to hear of this event from the witnesses firsthand, their accounts unblemished by the re-telling and widespread. If that is indeed their intention to properly enter the event in the Record of Saints, absent any ulterior motive. These men of faith that have come with you this far will doubtless wish to spread word of what they have witnessed here. But if you command them to bide their tongues, they will obey.
=======================
>You pay no heed to the whispers of the pilgrims. You are the avatar of the Almighty. If the Angel bids you speak, you shall shout from the rooftops. Until then, whatever comes is the will of Heaven. The cynicism of the doubters or the faith of the believers will not change that inalienable fact. [Haughty]
>You encourage your fellow pilgrims to spread the word. The Angel has chosen you, Adam has spoken to you. The blessing of the Almighty is a cause for joyous celebration. You put your stock in the faith of the righteous folk, not bookish clergy. [Hearty]
>You will bid the fellow pilgrims here to keep their silence until called upon for the Convocation. The Church, while a fallible human organisation, is still the Almighty’s earthly institution founded to adhere to the faith and keep as truthful a record as possible of his divine workings. Their processes are there for a reason, to stand proof against heresy and idle rumours. [Idealist]
