After the festival, you head to the student council room. When you enter, you notice, for a split second, a smile appears on Seo-young's face, but afterward, her face quickly returns to her neutral stance.
"Hey, Seo-young," you say as you approach her. "How are you doing?"
"I'm doing fine," she responds coolly.
"Would you like to explore more with me?"
She looks at you for a moment, her expression unreadable. "Sure, I have some free time now," she says finally. "Where do you want to go?"
You turn to her and say, "I would like to explore the basement more. Do you want to come with me?" She looks hesitant for a moment before nodding her head. Together, you make your way down the stairs and through the metal corridors until you reach a door marked "Authorized Personnel Only." You push the door open and enter what seems to be an abandoned experimental laboratory.
The room is dimly lit, and there are machines and equipment scattered around. Some of the machines look like they haven't been used in years, while others are still humming softly. You both explore the room, looking at the various instruments and materials. As you walk, you notice a logbook lying on a table in the corner.
Curious, you pick up the logbook and start flipping through the pages. Seo-young comes over to look over your shoulder, and together you try to make sense of the scientific jargon and diagrams that fill the pages. The logbook seems to detail experiments and dissections conducted on abnormal, extradimensional organisms. Some of the entries describe strange phenomena that you can't even begin to understand, while others detail gruesome procedures.
Seo-young's voice quivers, "It's creepy here. And some of the machines seem to still be functional. Why? Is there something-"
You interrupt her, saying, "Wait, look at this machine. What is that?" You point to the round glass, and as you both peer inside, you see a grotesque, alien creature wriggling within. Its skin is dark as coal and glittering in the light, with twisted horns protruding from its forehead and jagged teeth bared in a feral snarl.
Seo-young gasps, "Oh my god. I think I'm going to be sick."
Suddenly, from inside the room, the same high-pitched electronic sound from yesterday pierces through the air, causing both you and Seo-young to clutch your heads in pain.
Your friend grabs her head, wincing in pain. "What is that sound?" she asks, "It's hurting my head!"
You cover your ears with your hands, trying to block out the noise. "It's the same as yesterday, but worse," you say.
As the noise grows louder, you both feel a wave of dizziness wash over you.
