Why do men do the things they do?
Mitel had to undergo great physical and mental training to become an Enforcer. Enforcers are the civilian defense, law enforcement, peacekeeping, and the closest thing the Hegemony has to a standing army. To say its the most demanding job outside of being the Supreme Ruler is an understatement. Constantly on the lookout for enemies- and a zero tolerance policy for failure. Imagine being off your game one day and because of your actions, a civilian dies. Instantly, the reputation of the Enforcers, and the Hegemony as a whole, drops. Such betrayals cannot be easily forgiven or repaid.
Supreme Ruler Kinja Dulioan, your ancestor, said the same. People begin to doubt upon two betrayals. The first can be written off, but the second shows a pattern of behavior- it sows the seeds of doubt. The first can be forgotten like a bad dream, but the second instantly reopens that old wound and shows it out to the light again. To be the face of the all encompassing, all powerful Jaxtian empire- why do men do it?
Is it for the women? No doubt Enforcers are some of the most desired bachelors in the Hegemony. The thought of one being unable to breed- even with a low gene score- is almost unthinkable. At one point, the Enforcers were restricted to only those of a high and preferred gene score anyway- invariably they would be rolled into the breeding program. Even you can't deny a certain... dangerous charm to how Mitel looks in his uniform. How he carries himself; his dominant gaze and sweeping voice.
Is it for the accolades and respect? The money and privilege? Or is it for the power? Enforcers make terrible neighbors. The slightest Anti-Social behavior could and will be reported, cataloged, silently judged and eventually brought against you in a behavioral hearing. The ability to just... make someone you don't like suffer is an intoxicating power that shouldn't exist in civilized society. Of course, that's a hypocritical statement, considering your dad is the Supreme Ruler and all...
Or is it something else? Is there another reason? Something deeper- a strong moral sense of right and wrong? That morality is only funneled and determined by the Hegemony however, not by one's own conscious. Is it patriotism? These are not unintelligent men who have the will to gain power- but yet they are so willing to risk danger, humiliation, and even destroy their own internal self to get access to that power. Their own desires and moral compass thrown aside and stamped into the shape that a greater being determines for them.

That threw you for a trip to hear your real name right now- guess you can't trick a computer. It's a drone- come to give you a... random box? You didn't order anything today!
