>>5350610“Yeah, I remember I had some freaky kind of dream where I was gettin’...” Bernard trails off, face falling in realization. “Oh damn… that was Conduit, wasn’t it?”
You nod, wishing that you’d realized it sooner yourself. Maybe then you could’ve urged Eddie to finish the program way faster, but there’s no use in thinking too much about the past.
“So, do you guys want the bad news or worse news first?”
“Eh. I’ll take the bad news,” Bernard says.
“Worse news.” Matt replies.
You’re not sure if finding out about the Fraternity of the Atom or Conduit’s impending transformation into a mindless husk is the worse of the two evils. Considering that Conduit’s doom is the more pressing matter, you decide to start with that first.
After explaining the deal with Conduit for the third time in the past day, much like everyone else you’ve told thus yet, Matt and Bernard are left in varying states of shock.
Of course, you don’t stop there, since the Fraternity of the Atom is another lurking threat. If the fight’s in the sewers, you’re confident you can win. However, with Jezebel’s gang being what you think is a small portion of the overall group, you wonder just how many mutants you’ll be facing.
“Well fuck.” Matt finally says, breaking the dread-filled silence. “There goes my good morning.”
“Hey, but at least Boleski and the Healer are gonna help us out.” Bernard tries to find even the smallest speck of something positive in the situation. “But man, guess you really were busy, Ellie– we were both kinda goofin’ off the whole time. I was swimmin’ in the river, stick was canoodlin’ with Jenna–”
“I told you not to mention that…” Matt growls, a sudden look of fury growing on his face.
“Nah stick, I’m just teasin’ you.” Bernard tells him with a pat on the back. “It’s nice what you got goin’ on– we’re seriously happy if you’re happy.”
“You too, B. Ever gonna tell you-know-who that–” Matt says in a whisper, and, all-too-quickly, Bernard shoves a hand over his mouth, the rest of Matt’s words ending up muffled and unintelligible.
“Gonna tell who what?” You tilt your head, a little puzzled by Bernard’s behavior.
