Your mind froze, and you dragged your eyes back to the Nosferatu council-woman. She was staring at you from behind the messy desk, an open flask full of clear liquid raised in one hand, poised to be thrown.
“Mina! You're okay!” you exclaimed, breathing a sigh of relief. The woman looked perfectly fine, if a little sickly. If anything, your sudden arrival seemed to have rattled her. It was one of the only times you could remember seeing surprise register on her face.
“Yes. I see that you are as well. This is good.” she said, not bothering to lower her flask.
Her eyes were firmly locked on the Hellbat swarm. Even when it subsided, she kept watching the door. You moved away from it, ran across the room, and positioned yourself to defend her.
“He is coming.” she stated, her voice sounding surprisingly calm, given the situation.
“Yep. Sorry for leading him here.” you said, raising your sword.
“Don't be. You have done well.” she replied, stepping out from behind the desk.
The moment that Varnae entered the room, Mina splashed the contents of the flask into his face. Varnae recoiled as his flesh started to smoke! He screamed in pain and staggered backwards, dropping the sword in the process.
“No!” you shouted, slapping the flask out of her hand. “We can't hurt his host! She's just a kid. And kids don't deserve to have acid thrown into their faces!”
“That was holy water.” Mina pointed out as she pushed past you. “And this…is a devil's trap.”
She brandished a single match, struck it against the edge of a table, and flicked it at Varnae's feet. Immediately, the fire came in contact with an extremely flammable substance, and the flames spread to form a heptagram with various symbols at every intersection of the continuous line, as well as within the circle that surrounded it. It really was a devil's trap! And a very well made one too! With Varnae smack dab in the middle!
As soon as he recovered, Varnae gave Mina a vicious snarl.
“The Nosferatu sister. I should have known!”
“Yes. You should have.” Mina said, splashing him with even more holy water. You wondered just how much she had on her person.
Varnae roared in pain and outrage as his flesh sizzled.
“This trap will not hold me forever! And when I get out, I will subject you and your pathetic sibling to an eternity of torment!”
Mina’s gaze grew icy, then.
“Your army is in shambles, Varnae. By my design, your Kaiju have turned against you. And the result of your duel with Cindy Moon was, without question, a spectacular display of your cowardice and weakness. No one will follow you, after this. You have lost.”
Varnae bared his teeth at her.
“That is only your version of the story, you anemic imbecile.” he grounded out. “Once I get out of here and eliminate you all, no one else will know what truly transpired here.”
“You got a plan for pulling him out of that body?” you asked, glancing over at Mina.
