The substance on the floor was only a single tip of what continued further in, mounting in piles upon piles of melting, dissolving flesh. A vile, swampy tide of putrefication, accentuated only by the faint silhouette of towering bones, from which the sinew and muscle had sloughed.
Realization of what you were seeing drove shock down your spine, enough to rip your boot free and stagger away - Though no sooner had you done so did the turbid silence ooze the muffled sound of footsteps through the necrotic flesh. The faintest of light throbbing wetly with each step, until you could make out the sap covered form of your own naked body emerging from beneath the stagnant lake of rotting flesh which slipped from its form like liquid wax upon a candlestick. Glowing amber sap drooled thick, sickening ropes between the quivering sheets of appropriated carrion posing as its flesh, gluing the rotting meat to its body in horrific mimicry of a living thing.
It smiled wordlessly at you, revealing teeth of fragmented bone, and raised its arms astride in greeting... Where in the swamp it emerged from quaked. A bone-numbing throbbing which shook the earth and filled your ears with the coiling swirl of shifting rot. Boiling tendrils shifted inside the monolothic bones, drawing your eyes beyond the nightmarish copy of yourself to the flowers which bloomed along the arching ribs like throbbing, bleeding pustules.
The necrotic swamp parted in great waves, surging and sloughing as a serpentine amalgamate of spinal cord and vein-like roots rose from the depths, each of the obelisk like ribs quivering until they too broke free of the bed of flesh they had been rooted within to follow the twisting spine. Piece by piece, something larger unearthed itself, until the scarred, faceless visage of Aegis finally emerged, reconstituted in the titanic shattered skull of the Behemoth, where each fragment of its broken bones quivered as chitinous boney shells plastered together by amber sap and throbbing root-veins.
