The year is 2022. In the grasp of a spiralling international energy crisis, rising tensions contribute to the dwindling resources of the peaceful continent of Erusea being seized by a warlike incursion from the nation of Usea.
Under the Usean National Armament Management Cooperation Organisation (NAM-CO), the United Bilateral Interim Stabilisation Observer Federated Taskforce (UBI-SOFT) has been compelled to manufacture an enormous armoured aerofortress, The Spirit Of MOTHERWILL, filled with autonomous fleets of combat drones, anti-satellite weapons, submersible aircraft carriers, microtransactions, V/STOL multi-role aircraft and orbital attack lasers.
When the President of the Democratic Republic Of Erusea discovers that the HUD elements of the flying submersible aerofortress MOTHERWILL cannot be turned off, war is declared. But the Universal Peace Enforcement Organization of Usea has already gained control of Erusea's mainland.
What neither Usea nor Erusea is aware of is that the world has been secretly divided for millennia by an age-old struggle between assassins, who fight for war, and templars, who fight for war.
The creed of this struggle derives from the 11th century hashashin: Everything Is False, Nothing Is Permitted, which is why you autofail a mission if you try to walk outside the designated zone.
In a penal air fighter squadron, a lone pilot recruit callsign: Black Viking discovers that the aerofortress Spirit Of MOTHERWILL resembles a colossal tower which could be climbed to unlock a panoramic view of both of the continents of Usea and Erusea combined. Erusea and Usea are really one continent! There is no need for war! If only there were some sort of walking mechanical fighter jet with limbs and legs, that could climb MOTHERWILL and decide its gender identity; peace would be finally declared across Erusea and Usea.
Black Viking does not possess this walking mechanincal jet fighter. He must climb the airborne fortress MOTHERWILL with an F-35 instead. After a year of contract negotiations, travelling vacant islands depopulating the animal environment by harvesting their natural resources for crafting, Black Viking begins the ascent and momentarily loses consciousness when he examines the Block 4 LRIP cost of the JSF.
As he plummets towards a haystack below, Black Viking realises why there has not been an Armored Core game for nine years now. Probably better to leave the world alone?
