He had a strong feeling a few had even slipped by the recon. It was the only way he could explain how he felt he was being watched. The confusion of the utter darkness must have been what kept an ambush from beginning on the spot.
>The spotting phase has not occurred for this turn, for you or the enemy. It will take place after the movement phase this turn.
While Yule was mostly alone in talking on the net, he knew that the Countess had busied herself with coordinating the Headquarters unit’s artillery assets. For how impressive the vehicles of the battalion were, the true jewel of the unit were the Countess’s self-propelled gun batteries, which had recently doubled. Tank chassis hauling great cannon atop their hulls, Yule only hoped they would be still effective in the dark.
“Sir Major,” a soft voice came from below in the hull- the Countess had trusted the Sky Queen with Yule, likely because she couldn’t watch over her herself with what she needed to do. Apparently, this was a sign of significant trust- even though they hadn’t known one another long. Perhaps Haile was a bit too trusting. “Thou art uneased.”
“It’s battle,” he said shortly, “The shakes are normal. Get your head down, we don’t know what might be keeping an eye out for you.”
“If thou requires mine vision-“
“Your safety is more required,” Yule interrupted sharply, and was thankful that this noble was not the sort to reprimand such an offense. Velecacia had an oddity about her- not that she floated, that had become normal, now. It was that she could see in the dark. Somehow. It made about as much sense as how she bobbed and slid about in the air like a paper caught in the wind- on the road, she had been with a few of the officers when she had seen people whom the others couldn’t see themselves even with binoculars.
Useful? Maybe. She was also extremely important, though. Too much so to put a recon hat on her brow and shove her up front. Perhaps.
