“None live now who can say for sure," said the Astartes "but it has been passed down generation to generation. It is a call upon ancient spirits of war to aid the Jeramni in battle.”
The chanting began to grow, louder and louder, until they began to be true war cries. But beneath rage, the pride, the fury of those chants, Talos began to study the actual words, and came to a sudden realization. He understood some of it.
He understood, because some of the words could be found in the prayerbooks of Techpriests. “I recognize some that. There are words of code, verbal syntax used by the ancients should they lack physical interface. Those ‘spirits’ they call upon, those names are like those of Machine Spirits; names of Data Djinn, Firewall Ifrits, Repair Wisps, Accuracy Fae.”
At this, even Vadar seemed to be taken aback. “You describe the blessings the Jermani thought they would gain by invoking the old spirits. They believed it gave strength to their metal arms, made bullets hit their marks, shielded them from demons and angry spirits.”
Talos looked closer at the writing on the astartes armor and banners. “Those runes too. Those are also of machine code.” Talos could sense an effect from them, and knew he had felt such a thing only twice before: the runes upon the blades of the Space Wolves, and the ancient symbols written in his holy books.
