You struggled with it for a little while longer, before the bandages loosened around your fingers, and retracted to leave her mouth uncovered. Cindy groaned and let her head fall to the side. A bolt of cloth snaked out from her back, wrapped around her head, and tied itself behind your shoulder and back, propping her head up.
Cindy murmured her gratitude in a series of broken up, slurred words that you could barely understand. You gently stroked her forehead, and she let out a tiny contented sigh.
<span class="mu-g">“<span class="mu-i">This</span> is the one that Young requested? It is rather puny, King Kawade.”</span> said the bipedal bug monster, hiding behind the throne.
<span class="mu-r">“Is she alright? She looks sick//ill//unwell.”</span> the giant robot lady put in, her voice glitching and her eyes twitching with every synonym she uttered. She knelt down to get a better look at the two of you, and you resisted the urge to back away.
<span class="mu-s">“Poor lil’ thing looks tuckered out.”</span> the other giant robot observed.
<span class="mu-g">“It reeks of death!”</span> the giant bug added with a hiss.
The Kaiju King waved him off, but you could tell that he was studying Cindy like a puzzle that was just begging to be solved.
<span class="mu-s">“I just had a shower…!”</span> Cindy groaned.
<span class="mu-r">“Don’t listen to them, kid. You smell fresh as a daisy.”</span> you reassured her.
That earned you a smile and a delirious laugh from her.
Hi-Vo spoke up next, but you weren’t able to understand anything he said, on account of his words coming out as a gargled mess of snaps, crackles and pops. You could’ve swore that he was speaking perfect English when you were on the surface.
The dragon man nodded wisely.
<span class="mu-g">“Hi-Vo’s right. We need to get her to Young’s place before word gets out that her granddaughter is in this state.”</span>
Now that was something you could all agree on.
<span class="mu-r">“Try not to move around too much. It’s a long way down from here…”</span> you said, glancing over your shoulder at the impressively long set of stairs you’d skipped to get here. You weren’t entirely comfortable flying back down with Cindy in tow. Your cloak was already becoming singed at the edges from using your flight ability. You were considering removing it altogether to avoid any further damage.
What will you do?
