“Let’s get in.” Vera wants you to help her out of the car.
“I’ll wait here with one foot on the accelerator, kids.” Eddie the Getaway Driver takes his job seriously. He opens the back of the car for you to get the wheelchair. “You got my number if you need anything.”
“Aye.” You say as you leave the car.
“Good luck, kids, don’t make the boss look bad.” Eddie believes in you two for whatever that is worth.
You and Vera get inside the Party’s headquarters, a somewhat fancy place showing its age, which reminds you of an old sophisticated hotel in a classic heist movie, there’s something about the details, the marble floor, and the candid light that give you that impression. It’s spacious with flaming green flags all around with a symbol that doesn’t look like anything you recognize. Many slogans on banners behind tables with people queuing similar to a convention, tiny groups chatting about a myriad of issues, the main talk appears to be the upcoming presidential elections and who the party wants to back. But outside of specifics, it seems to be a recruitment meeting, what a nice coincidence.
There is also talk about odd sounds inside the building from party members. You recognize them because they wear a pin on their chest with the unrecognizable symbol.
Anyway, you follow Vera’s instructions until you reach a ‘dead end’: the second reception at the lobby farther inside. It’s party member exclusive, if you don’t have credentials, you can’t pass. Judging by Ayde’s path, Vera believes he came out of the elevator at the end of the room past this blockage.
“I have a plan.” You say with confidence as you notice an object that is going to come in handy.
Without hesitation, you walk towards the closest Fire Alarm, stare at it, realize you don’t know how to break the piece of plastic under it to pull the handle, come up with the worst solution possible, and use your phone to destroy the obstacle — then trigger the alarm. And people say old phones aren’t useful, they are heck of a lot more sturdy…
The alarm rings all over the building! People aren’t sure what’s going on, they all look around like fireworks are supposed to come out or something. Security is confused but taking it seriously. The receptionist who just rejected your entrance walks past the blockage to address the bewildered crowd. Panic hasn’t set in yet, but people are uneasy.
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” Vera wheeled herself to your side to be beside herself!
“Creating an opportunity?” You say without the confidence you had 2 seconds ago.
“To get us arrested?!” Vera can’t believe this.
Huh… You don’t have to panic. Well, you don’t have the Courage not to panic. But you can be useful while in a state of panic!
