You may not be the best at conversation, but you can still manage some chit-chat.
The knight greets your approach with a silent half glance over her shoulder.
“Emilia.” You acknowledge her. “..How goes it?”
“Why are you here?” Emilia glares you down, halfway done with a second bowl of pork.
“Well, I thought I might eat with you.” You offer her. “I don’t want to intrude. Just thought to ask you about your time in the army. And the lot over there are unfamiliar with human matters like this.”
The berserker remains quiet, eyeing you with suspicion, before opening her mouth. “..I shipped off when I was 16 because my brother got sent home in a box. Thought I might do his memory well. They figured my build a good fit for the berserkers, so they sent me to be trained and locked me in this suit. Then I fought for a year with the CROW LEGION of the BERSERKER REGIMENT.”
“The crow legion?” You echo.
“The last generation of berserkers. Named so because they only sent us in after the fight was all done–our job was to pick at the leftovers.” She responds bitterly. “Then they had us shipped back, stuck in our suits and blood still fresh on our blades. But our kind aren’t built to survive after war’s end. My unit all died, one by one. And I came here to escape that.”
